Sherri Shepherd Takes Surrogacy Case Loss, Lands New Role on New NBC Pilot

sherri shepherd*Sherri Shepherd’s legal situation has taken a bad turn.

According to the Associated Press, the former “The View” co-host lost her appeal of a Pennsylvania court ruling that found her responsible for a child born to a surrogate before she divorced her husband Lamar Sally.

As a result, Shepherd will have to pay child support in light of  the state Supreme Court saying Tuesday (March 1) that won’t hear the entertainer’s case.

“Surrogacy advocates say the lower court ruling in her case is the first to declare surrogacy contracts binding in Pennsylvania, Page Six reports, adding that Shepherd is paying $4,100 in monthly child support to Sally.

Sally’s lawyer, Tiffany Palmer, argues that Shepherd has not seen the 1-year-old child. Although the comedienne-actress spent more than $100,000 to arrange the surrogacy she tried to void the contract as she and Sally divorced in New Jersey. Weighing in on the ruling, Shepherd’s lawyer voiced his surprise over the court’s refusal to review the issue.

Shepherd may have gotten the short end of the legal stick, but she’s making strides professionally with being part of a new NBC pilot. The serialized comedy, called “The Trail,” also features John Lithgow and is a spoof of documentary series such as “The Jinx” and “Making a Murderer.”

Detailing Shepherd’s role, Deadline reports that she will play Anne Flatch, the well-meaning and enthusiastic assistant/receptionist at Josh Simon’s makeshift law office in East Peck, South Carolina. Among the numerous disorders Anne suffers from is facial blindness — the inability to recognize people by their faces.
