*With his unique and colorful wardrobe as well as his professional longevity as a sideline reporter in the NBA, Craig Sager is a widely respected and celebrated fixture in the world of sports.
But Sager’s personal health is on the minds of sports fans as his battle with cancer as taken a downward turn.
On Tuesday (Mar. 22), Sager revealed to HBO’s “Real Sports” that the acute myeloid leukemia he’s battled since 2014 is no longer in remission. As a result, the 64-year-old veteran sideline reporter added that doctors predict he may only have three to six months to live.
As the interview continued, Sager confirmed doctors informed him he’s now entering “uncharted territories” in his battle against leukemia.
Sports Illustrated Ben Golliver obtained an official copy of Sager’s transcript of the interview in which he bravely and honestly speaks about his prognosis.
“I’ve already had two stem cell transplants. Very rarely does somebody have a third,” Sager told HBO. “So I have to maintain my strength, so I can go through this.”

Despite his situation, Sager remains hopeful and expects to win his fight against cancer. Fox Sports reports that Sager shared a bit of good news in a press release, on Wednesday (Mar. 23), saying the prognosis he mentioned in the “Real Sports” interview is for someone forgoing treatment.
