apollo prince tribute

*He may have been from Minneapolis, but major New York City institutions are remembering Prince today following his sudden death at age 57.

As one person in New York put it, all of Manhattan is in mourning:

“Purple Rain” lyrics were displayed on the Hard Rock Café marquee in New York City:

Nothing compares 2 u, #Prince A photo posted by Chris (@indieattorney) on

Prince made several appearances at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. The venue played his music as its marquee was changed today to read “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

Across the bridge, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced that BK will honor Prince tonight:

Brooklyn’s own Spike Lee posted a number of tweets and Instagram pics today to express shock and sadness:

I Miss My Brother. Prince Was A Funny Cat. Great Sense Of Humor.

Spike Lee also shared a link to the music video he directed for Prince’s song, “Money Don’t Matter 2 Night.”
