Denzel Washington Stars in ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Remake (Watch Trailer)

*As we reported earlier, Denzel Washington is heading the  remake of the classic 1960 western “The Magnificent Seven.” Check out the film’s first trailer below.

The original “Magnificent Seven” was an Old West-style adaptation of a 1954 Japanese language movie by Akira Kurosawa titled “Seven Samurai,” according to Celebbeat. The 1960 feature spawned three sequels (1966’s “Return of the Seven,” “Guns of the Magnificent Seven” in 1969, and “The Magnificent Seven Ride” in 1972) a comedy parody (“Tres Amigos”) and a TV series, which ran from 1998 to 2000 on CBS.

For the “The Magnificent Seven” remake, Washington reunites with his “Training Day” co-star Ethan Hawke in addition to co-starring with Chris Pratt and Haley Bennett, who has signed on as the film’s female lead, according to the Inquisitor.

The Magnificent Seven is an upcoming American western action film directed by Antoine Fuqua, a remake of the 1960 western film of the same name, which in turn was a remake of the 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai. The film stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, and Peter Sarsgaard. Principal photography began on May 18, 2015, in the north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The film is set to be released in conventional and IMAX theatres on September 23, 2016.

A remake of the film was reported to be in the planning stages in 2012, with Tom Cruise starring. It was reported that Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon might join the film. On December 4, 2014, Chris Pratt was in early talks to join Washington in the film.  On February 20, 2015, Haley Bennett was set to star as the widow of a man who was murdered, and she hires seven bounty hunters to get revenge. Peter Sarsgaard signed on on May 20, 2015, to play the villain role in the film. On the same day, Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr confirmed that Jason Momoa had left the film because he was already booked to play Aquaman. On July 11, 2015, Daily Mirror reported that Vinnie Jones had been set to star in the film.
