The original “Magnificent Seven” was an Old West-style adaptation of a 1954 Japanese language movie by Akira Kurosawa titled “Seven Samurai,” according to Celebbeat. The 1960 feature spawned three sequels (1966’s “Return of the Seven,” “Guns of the Magnificent Seven” in 1969, and “The Magnificent Seven Ride” in 1972) a comedy parody (“Tres Amigos”) and a TV series, which ran from 1998 to 2000 on CBS.
For the “The Magnificent Seven” remake, Washington reunites with his “Training Day” co-star Ethan Hawke in addition to co-starring with Chris Pratt and Haley Bennett, who has signed on as the film’s female lead, according to the Inquisitor.
