EURweb’s Lee Bailey and Steven Ivory Reminisce Over Prince (LISTEN)

*The death of Prince has sent shock waves throughout the world as fans and those who knew and collaborated with him mourn openly and privately the passing of a true music legend.

The news hits especially hard for EURweb’s Lee Bailey and Steven Ivory, who wrote the first book ever written on Prince, a tome the Purple One admitted, “he didn’t hate.” Bailey and Ivory are noted for giving the public its first taste of Prince’s classic soundtrack to his film debut, 1984’s “Purple Rain,” on Bailey’s syndicated radio show RadioScope weeks before it’s official release in stores.

Chatting with Bailey, Ivory takes a moment to remember Prince, his influence and legacy as well as how he got word of Prince’s death and the time he was invited to a rehearsal at Paisley Park. In addition, Ivory addresses criticism surrounding how Prince dressed and the only time Prince and Michael Jackson appeared onstage together.

“Prince was the absolute amalgamation of all those things, all of those great things about modern black music,” Ivory told Bailey. “He was Little Richard in his appearance and his performance. He was Stevie Wonder in his self-containment. He was Jimi Hendrix in the way he played guitar. He was Miles Davis in the way he dressed and his meticulous way of running his band. He was Michael Jackson in his quest to entertain. He was James Brown bringing the funk. He was even Aretha Franklin when he would break into his falsetto every now and then. He was the amalgamation of all the great things about modern black music. And this man is gone. What he is doing in his passing is just closing that door, just easing it a little more, phasing out this, this era of incredible and iconic music and the artists who made it.”
