*The Times Picayune is reporting that Will Smith, a former New Orleans Saints defensive end, was killed and his wife was wounded in a Saturday evening shooting in New Orleans on Saturday (04-09-16), according to two law enforcement sources and a Saints source with direct knowledge of the incident.

Smith was 34.

Police said the victim and his wife were traveling eastbound on Sophie Wright Place when their Mercedes Benz SUV was rear-ended by a Hummer H2. The collision caused the Smith’s vehicle to hit a Chevrolet Impala traveling along the same street.

Smith and the driver of the Hummer “exchanged words, at which time the driver of the Hummer produced a handgun and shot the male victim multiple times and his 34-year-old wife twice in the right leg,” said NOPD spokesman Juan Barnes.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was transported to a hospital, authorities said. Police said the 30-year-old driver of the Hummer is in custody and being interviewed by investigators. The gun used in the shooting has been recovered.

The shooter has been identified as 28-year-old Cardell Hayes seen in his mugshot below:

*Meanwhile, out West in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao defeated Timothy Bradley in his first fight since being defeated by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Here’s what the AP is reporting:

Pacquiao returned from the biggest loss of his career with a bang Saturday night, knocking down Timothy Bradley twice on his way to a unanimous 12-round decision in their welterweight showdown.

Pacquiao shook off the ring rust from a layoff of nearly a year after losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. to beat Bradley for a second time in the rubber match between the two fighters. In doing so, the Senate candidate in his native Philippines showed he may have to reconsider his plans to retire and devote his full time to politics.

Pacquiao (58-6-2) knocked down Bradley (33-2-1) in the seventh round, though Bradley seemed to have slipped. He left no doubt in the ninth with a big left hand that sent Bradley sprawling.
