*Larenz Tate plays one of five friends dealing with a lifelong secret in the NBC drama “Game of Silence,” premiering tonight (April 12) at 10 p.m. on NBC.
Tate plays Shawn Cook, whom he describes as the glue that holds his crew of childhood friends together (four boys, one girl) as they attempt to mount an elaborate revenge scheme against the perpetrators of their childhood trauma.
“I play a guy who pretty much is like the gel amongst the friends. He keeps that loyalty theme going,” Tate tells EURweb. “Through the midst of the storm and the crisis, he becomes the rock, no matter which way all the other characters want to go, we’re all seeking justice.”
Justice against what, exactly? Viewers are deliberately kept in the dark. We do know that a car accident took place when they were 13, resulting in the four boys being thrown into juvie, where they were severely bullied. By the end of the pilot, it’s clear that a rape has occurred.
Circumstances bring them back together as adults, with a chance to seek revenge against the warden, guards and other inmates who abused them.
“Game of Silence” is the latest in a long list of roles played by Tate. Below, the 40-year-old actor says his successful career was paid for by a lifetime of hard work and hustle:
“Game of Silence” premieres tonight at 10 p.m. after “The Voice” on NBC.
