Philly’s Josh Collins’ Delivers New Music: ‘Good Things’ (VIDEO)

*Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Many music fans in Philly are already familiar Joshua “Josh” Collins, formerly of underground R&B group U. City, but they may not know him like this. Collins’ upcoming solo album “Up Til Dawn” underscores his transition lyrically and vocally after shedding the duo vibe and coming into his own.

Collins’ West Philly roots are evident in his music encompassing genres made popular by local artists who broke onto the worldwide stage like The Roots and Bilal. The singer-songwriter’s lead single “GoodThings” drips with sensuality and is layered with harmonies reminiscent of a Robert Glasper track. It’s no coincidence that the single is set to be released on Feb. 14, right in time for the lovers to crown it their new anthem.

Unlike today’s current R&B/soul singers, Collins’ music was authentically written with women in mind. The subtlety of his lyrics matched with the power of his voice makes “Up Til Dawn” an album that fills the void between R&B and Soul music. A self-proclaimed lover of melody, the singer says, “My music is created with all kinds of emotions attached to it. The feelings you get when you’re alone on a balcony, overlooking a dope view of the city is what I wanted to convey with this album. It also touches on everything you go through when dealing with relationships with our most precious gift, the woman.”

“Up Til Dawn’s” overall feel is unadorned and yet provocative. The second single entitled “Almost There” is accompanied by a video shot in Los Angeles and opens with the high hat that drives the beat allowing for a mellow ride with a little bounce. Collins is set to perform in and around Philadelphia with the subsequent debut of “Up Til Dawn.”
