According to Kankakee’s Daily-Journal, R. Kelly donated $5,000 toward costs of the funeral:

“It’s part of the foundation’s mission to help people in need, uplift their spirits and make the world a better place,” Kelly’s lawyer, Linda Mensch, said. “He was so heartbroken to hear about that fire.”

Kelly made the donation after his tour manager, Kevin Gyles, who grew up in Kankakee, told him about the tragic fire.

“He just said to take care of the funeral costs,” Gyles said. “He does all his charity work from the heart.”
