*She’s back…and still identifying as black.

Rachel Dolezal, the woman at the center of a media firestorm when it was revealed that though she had been identifying and living as a black woman for years, she was actually born white, appeared on “Today” Tuesday to discuss what her life has been like since she was exposed.

It appears as if nothing has really changed. She told Savannah Guthrie she still identifies as a black woman.

Asked if she regrets saying things about herself that weren’t true, Dolezal said she didn’t understand the question. “I definitely don’t have any regrets about how I identify,” she answered. “I’m still me. Nothing about that has changed.”

Guthrie clarified, saying that Dolezal allowed people to believe that she’d been born black, and asking if she now wished she’d been more up front about her background to avoid the unnecessary controversy.

“Not necessarily,” Dolezal said. If anything, she says the controversy had allowed her more clarity about who she is.

She also announced that she’s currently writing a book about racial identity.
