*Message to Prince fans and others, before you go off on US, remember we’re just the messenger.

TMZ says that according to multiple sources, Prince was treated for a drug overdose 6 days before his death.

We broke the story … Prince’s private jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday, hours after he performed in Atlanta. At the time his reps said he was battling the flu … something we questioned because his plane was only 48 minutes from home before the unscheduled landing.

Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a “save shot” … typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

Our sources further say doctors advised Prince to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. His people demanded a private room, and when they were told that wasn’t possible … Prince and co. decided to bail. The singer was released 3 hours after arriving and flew home.

We’re told when Prince left he “was not doing well.”

The TMZ report goes on to say that authorities in Minnesota are trying to get the hospital records from Moline to help determine cause of death.

Meanwhile, multiple attempts to reach Prince’s reps for comment have been made, but so far it’s been nothing but radio silence.

In other Prince news, his ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, released a heartbreaking statement. She told People.com:

“I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.” She added, “I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He’s with our son now.”

Garcia met Prince as a teenager in 1990 and worked as a dancer on one of his tours. The pair married in 1996, when she was 22 and he was 37.

That same year, Prince and Garcia suffered the tragic loss of their son, Gregory, when he was just one week old. The child was born with Pfeiffer syndrome, People reported, a rare genetic disorder that affects growth of the skull and bones in the hands and feet. They divorced in 2000.
