*Taye Diggs is jumping into the world of game shows with his newest endeavor.
Shadow and Act reports the actor will host “You’re Back in the Room” (working title), the American version of the popular United Kingdom hypnotic game show of the same name, which stars award-winning hypnotist Keith Barry.
For Diggs, the chance to be a part of the one-hour show was a no-brainer.
“The second I saw this show I knew I needed to be a part of it. It’s the most unique blend of comedy and competition I’ve seen in years,” said the entertainer, who will host alongside the show’s resident hypnotist Barry. “I’m also quite excited as this is a program I can watch and laugh at with my six-year-old son.”
The new show, based on the U.K. version , will feature contestants involved in physical comedy and unpredictable situations as they work together in teams while challenged to complete various simple, everyday tasks, ranging from frosting a cake to blowing up balloons… after being hypnotized. With the contestants needing to work together as a team, big money is up for grabs. The kicker is the hypnotic state of the contestants, which results in hysterical hurdles that unwittingly sabotage their progress.
With his newest gig, Diggs lands in good company among a notable group of past and present black male game show hosts that includes Cedric the Entertainer and Terry Crews (“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”); Wayne Brady (“Let’s Make a Deal”); Steve Harvey (“Family Feud”); Alfonso Ribeiro (“Catch 21,” “Spell-Mageddon”); Anthony Anderson (“To Tell the Truth”); Common (“Framework”); Donald Faison (“WINSANITY”); and Michael Strahan, who will also be new on the game show scene with hosting ABC’s 10-episode summer revival of “The $100,000 Pyramid” in primetime.
In addition to starring on “You’re Back in the Room,” in the U.K. Barry is known as the world’s leading TV hypnotist, mentalist and “brain hacker” and has starred in more than over 40 international TV shows. The longtime touring hypnotist is making his mark behind the scenes as the chief magic and mentalist consultant on the upcoming film “Now You See Me: The Second Act,” which is slated for a June premiere.
For Diggs, “You’re Back in the Room,” which will begin production in July, comes amid his current duties on the small screen as Detective Terry English in the TNT drama, “Murder in the First. ”
The U.K. version of “You’re Back In The Room,” debuted in the country as the No. 1 new unscripted entertainment series in 2015.
