*D’Angelo appeared on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday and delivered a poignant tribute to Prince by performing perhaps the most fitting song of his discography at the moment, “Sometimes it Snows In April.”

The closing track of his 1986 album “Parade” features the chorus:

Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad
Sometimes I wish life was never ending
And all good things, they say, never last

Backed by actress Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum of the tribute band Princess, D’Angelo delivered the song at a piano, on a stage bathed in purple light.

He teared up and had to stop briefly after changing a lyric to honor Prince, singing, “I often dream of heaven and I know my Prince is there.”
