Afrika Bambaataa Now Accused of Molesting Hundreds of Boys

Afrika Bambaataa

*A man claiming to be a former bodyguard of Afrika Bambaataa has come forward to support claims made by several men that the hip-hop pioneer molested them as teens. In an interview with Star on his Shot97 show, Shamsideen Shariyf Ali Bey alleges Bambaataa has been molesting boys since the 1970s and even walked in on Bambaataa in the act!

“There’s always a boy in his house. When he leaves and gets home, there’s always a boy there. I’ve seen them camped, asking him for money. He travels with late teens, those are the ones he takes overseas with him. When I went with him on tour in the states, I’d stay in one room, and he would have boys in the room with him…Since the 70s, it’s been hundreds…I can say I’ve walked in on stuff where I say, what the f–k is going on?”

Bambaataa is most notable for releasing a series of genre-defining electro tracks in the 1980s that influenced the development of hip hop culture. He is one of the originators of breakbeat DJing and is respectfully known as “The Godfather” and “Amen Ra of Hip Hop Kulture”, as well as the father of electro funk.

Vibe notes that allegations against the 59 year old began when Ronald Savage, a former member of the Zulu Nation, spoke exclusively with the New York Daily News about his relationship with Bambaataa, and the several time he molested him. Following his claims, three other men came forward also accusing him of abuse.

“I want him to know how much he damaged me growing up,” Savage said. “I was just a child. Why did he take my innocence away? Why did he do this to me?”

Bambaataa has repeatedly and vehemently denied the allegations via his lawyer Vivian Kimi Tozak.
