Akon’s Atlanta Mansion Hits Market for $2.5M

Akon*Singer/producer Akon has put his Sandy Springs estate on the market. The 10 bedroom, 9.5-bathroom, 14,994 square foot home is listed at $2,595,000. It was purchased in February of 2007 for $2.685 million, according to public records, by his music manager, Darrick Stephens a.k.a Devyne Stephens.

Rolling Out reports that it was built in 1990, and it’s amenities include an indoor and outdoor pool, indoor racket ball and basketball court and two guest houses complete with two beds and two baths. The singer once bragged about the property on MTV Cribs.

Akon's mansionThe listing realtor says roof repairs are needed, and that’s caused some ceiling issues. But, the realtor notes that the home “has a lot of potential and a lot of acreage to expand,” per 11alive.com.

“The house has 8,697 square feet living space, set on a 4.6-acre lot. It reflects his grandiose taste, with high-molded ceilings, tall windows and imposing pillars. The mansion has six bedrooms, eight full baths and two half baths, a library, game room, spa, seven fireplaces and a media room. Outside, it has a gorgeous swimming pool and a six-car garage.”

In 2015 it was reported that Akon turned over the deeds to the home to his mother, Kine Thiam, after being hit with several lawsuits, including $36,765 for renovation work and a $15,000 unpaid balance for the home’s flooring. Back in 2012, Southern Electric claimed he refused to pay a total balance of $51,941 on electric work, framing and molding.

Akon’s net worth is reportedly $80 million, and he’s the owner of a diamond mine in South Africa. In 2007, the Senegal native launched the Konfidence Foundation, which is “dedicated to empowering youth in Senegal, West Africa and the United States by promoting health and education, and supporting impoverished families,” according to the website.
