*Justin Lin is in talks to direct Warner Bros’ “Space Jam 2,” a sequel to the Looney Tunes film with NBA star Lebron James set to replace Michael Jordan in the title role.

The original featured Jordan and the Looney Tunes cast joining forces to battle a group of aliens in an epic basketball game.

Lin, best known for reviving the “Fast and Furious” franchise, is writing the script with Andrew Dodge. Charles Ebersol is producing.

Per Variety:

Rumors of a “Space Jam” sequel sparked last summer after James and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. James has been compared to Jordan since the NBA all-star entered the league in 2003. Following Jordan’s footsteps on the big screen makes sense for James, as well as the studio, which is constantly looking for material with established brand value.

James made his acting debut in the Judd Apatow comedy “Trainwreck,” where he played himself. James received strong reviews, specifically for his comedic timing opposite seasoned vets. He is repped by WME.

Lin is currently in post production on “Star Trek Beyond,” which bows later this summer. He also recently helmed an episode in the most recent season of “True Detective.” He is repped by CAA, Kinetic Management and Sloss Eckhouse.
