*If you are looking for a way to mourn the passing of one of the music industry’s greatest musical icons, PRINCE, and happen to be in the Los Angeles area, a public memorial is scheduled to take place Friday, May 6, on the Spring Street steps of Los Angeles City Hall.

And the event is FREE and OPEN to the public.

The tribute to The Purple One will be hosted by the offices of Mayor Eric Garcetti , Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, and Councilmember Jose Huizar in partnership with 102.3 KJLH Radio, Grand Park, Fusicology, and SOULNIC (as well as other partners TBD). The event begins at 5 and runs until 8 p.m.

And who knows, according to the  L.A. Times, the event organizers have even reached out to musicians and collaborators of Prince to see if they would be interested in giving a few performances.

I’d much rather celebrate the life of this incredible gift to the world named PRINCE,  at an event where money is not being requested, and all efforts are donated; as opposed to the Facebook event where I am being hated on for remarks I made on one requesting money; yet not giving that money to the charitable organizations endeared by the artist.

As the Facebook announcement for the public event points out,  the Los Angeles City Hall was the prime location for the Diamonds and Pearls video, making it a fitting spot to hold an official city memorial.

The event takes place on Friday, May 6, at 200 Spring Street in Los Angeles from 5-8 pm. FREE. Open to the public.
