*After 25 years at ESPN, veteran play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico is leaving the cable channel and moving to NBC Sports.

The Sports Business Journal reported a few weeks ago that NBC had made Tirico an offer. It becomes official today, with a press release from the Peacock announcing Tirico’s start date of July 1. He’ll work on Sunday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, the Olympics, select golf telecasts, and “other big events.”

“I am thrilled to join this outstanding team,” Tirico said in the release. “For me, NBC Sports has always represented the highest quality in television sports production and the chance to now be a part of that, is a dream come true. It is a perfect time in my career to take on new opportunities, and I am excited to do that with an exceptional group of people.”

Tirico’s last assignment for ESPN will be as a host for the European Championships in June.

His play-by-play gig on “Monday Night Football,” which he’s had from 2006-2015, will be taken over by fellow ESPN play-by-play veteran Sean McDonough.
