*A father and daughter ended up in a South Carolina jail on Saturday after the daughter tried to take a stand against a pro-Confederate flag group after stumbling upon their weekly gathering.

According to The Post and Courier, the S.C. Secessionist Party was putting on its so-called “weekly display of Southern flags” at Charleston Battery when a tourist, 22-year-old Lydia Folckomer of Brooklyn, walked by and broke two small Confederate flags off a parked truck, then tried to run away with them because they upset her. According to a Charleston police report, party founder James Bessenger, 27, took off after her.

Lydia’s father, 50-year-old Paul Folckomer of Brevard, N.C., stepped in front of Bessenger and grabbed him to keep him from chasing his daughter, according to the report.

Police were called and the daughter was charged with malicious injury to real property. Her father was charged with simple assault. They spent the night in jail and were released on bail Sunday afternoon.

The party gloated about their arrest on Facebook, posting the message: “The moral of the story? Make the Yankees pay for their crimes when they come to our State, break our laws and attempt to dishonor our ancestors.”
