Majority of Black American Movies are NOT Slave Narratives

Madea*In response to the “ROOTS” criticism and the call to boycott the event series, Shadow and Act has responded to viewers who are often left wondering, “When is Hollywood going to tell stories about black people that aren’t about slavery?” was a common question asked, followed with, “All we ever get are movies about slavery. This is BS! I’m tired of this. I’m not watching ‘Roots!’”

Snoop Dogg even chimed in on the on the issue via a video on his Instagram page, saying in an expletive-filled rant, “I’m sick of this… They just going to keep beating that sh*t into our heads as to how they did us, huh?”

In fact, the list proves the exact opposite.

Peep the list below.

Writer Tambay Obenson asked those who challenged her piece here to review the list and share how many of the films did they actually supported, especially the indie art house and non-American films, and documentaries.
