*In the first two seasons of ABC’s anthology series “American Crime,” Regina King has played the Muslim sister of a man accused of murder, and the wealthy mother of a teen son accused of a hate crime.

The network confirms that the actress will return to John Ridley’s critically-acclaimed drama for Season 3, which will see its setting move from the Midwest to North Carolina, and its storyline tackle “labor issues, economic divides and individual rights.”

“We could not be more excited to welcome Regina back for a third season of ‘American Crime,’” Ridley said in a statement, obtained by Variety. “She is among the talent who have quickly become intimately associated with the program. As with the first two seasons, her many fans can expect a total transformation as she plays one of the complicated individuals caught up in a story that deals with labor issues, economic divides and individual rights in this season’s setting of North Carolina.”

“American Crime” shot its first two seasons in Austin, Texas, but recently obtained California tax credits and is relocating to the west coast for season 3, despite being set in North Carolina.

King won an Emmy for her work on “American Crime” last year. The show earned 10 nominations in its first season, which sold ABC on a third season renewal despite lukewarm ratings.
