*Charlotte Tidwell may have retired her job as a nurse, but she is still helping people in a most meaningful way; By making sure they have food in their stomach. Because going hungry ain’t no joke.
Not only does Tidwell, a 69-year-old African American woman, use a portion of the pension she earned during her 40+ years as a nurse to feed the hungry each month, she went a step further and founded a nonprofit agency, where she could apply for grants and accept donations to ensure she reaches as many people as possible. Now the Antioch Consolidated Association for Youth and Family feeds 7,000 people a month and nearly half a million annually, according to NBC News.
Tidwell told the news agency, “I have the obligation to serve them, and to serve them in a compassionate, respectful way.”
