*A man who defended a teenage girl’s candy hustle is being lauded by thousands online after video of the incident went viral.

A teenage girl was selling candy outside of a Target in Rowland Heights, California when an older white woman approached and began scolding her for selling the product illegally.

“She comes up to the little kid and is like, ‘Where is your license? Have you asked permission to be here?’ And then the kid is like, ‘No, I’m just selling candy. I’m trying to make some money,’ ” witness Andy Lizarraga told CBS Los Angeles.

As the woman demanded to see the teen’s license, a man, later identified as Jay Lopez, was leaving the store and quickly came to the girl’s defense. This is when Lizarraga began filming.

“You should be ashamed of yourself,” Lopez said to the woman, according to the video. To the teen, he said, “How much candy is that? I’m buying it all.”

The woman told Lopez, “I am not ashamed of myself. I’m standing up for this young person.”

“Yeah. You’re really standing up for them yelling at them,” Lopez said.

“They do it all around the country and you should see how they live,” the lady responded.

According to Lizarraga, who posted the video on Facebook, Lopez purchased about $80 worth of candy from the girl and handed it out to people standing around the incident.
