The Road to the BET Experience 2016 Headlined by Monica (PHOTOS)

*Los Angeles  –  It’s feeling HOT! HOT! HOT! Yes, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, Summer is already heating up on several fronts. I’m sure that you are feeling the heat all around you. The Fahrenheit is rising on the cultural and music landscape in the City of Angels.

BETX presented by Coca-Cola, BET Networks and AEG teamed up once again with the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza to showcase an afternoon of HOT! top notch, world class musical performances headlined by Monica.

A capacity crowd estimated at 4,000 music loving fans assembled on the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Promenade to get their groove on, on this HOT! beautiful day in Southern California.

Back by popular demand, DJ Mal-ski, Radio Free 102.3FM added to the musical gumbo with a delectable mix of institutionalized old school and new school soundtrack to the delight of the attentive crowd.

Chuck Dizzle, popular DJ on REAL 92.3 served as Master of Ceremony to introduce each performer. DJ Dizzle and DJ Mal-ski pleased the audience with a generous supply of giveaways.

The atmosphere was simmering as people waited anxiously for the first act to perform. Luke James Boyd, Luke James is a two-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter who didn’t disappoint during his time in the spotlight. He performed “Make Love to Me” and “I Want You” and sampled a little bit of “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye.

A quiet hush hovered over the crowd as Tish Hyman took to the stage. Tish Hyman, singer/songwriter from the Bronx was a welcomed addition to the show. She had the audience in the palm of her hand during her crowd pleasing set on the tunes “I Got to Keep on Keeping On,” and “Subway Art” about people you meet on the subways of New York, selling different items or asking for a little financial help. Angelenos who ride the Metro rails and buses came relate to this song. She closed her set with “Four Letter Word” about a painful relationship breakup.

V Bozeman, soul singer, music producer and actress, best known for her recurring role as Veronica on the hit Fox drama Empire was next to perform. She thrilled the audience on the tunes “What is Love,” “Smile,” and another road worthy break-up tune “Go.”

Bilal brought out and shared a lot of the soulful sounds of Philadelphia. He opened his set with “Back to Love” from his CD A Love Surreal. He continued with “I Really Don’t Care” from In Another Life CD. He concluded his set with some Philly love for the majority of African American women in the crowd on the tune “Soul Sista.”

Monica the shows headliner took it up a notch as she performed an awesome thirty minute set. The crowd was moving and grooving despite the smoldering heat. Monica’s set list consisted of the songs “First Night,” “Dtip,” “So Gone,” B4U Walk,” “and “Shoulda Known.” The show continued with additional popular songs from her repertoire “Love All Over,” “Why I Love You,” and “Alone N UR Heart.” Monica stepped back to allow her back up vocalist to shine in the spotlight on “Rain” and “As We Lay” by Shirley Murdock. The crowd served as additional vocalist while singing along with Monica on “Silly” by Deniece Williams, “Everything to Me,” and concluded with “Right 4 Me.”

The BET Experience at L.A. LIVE presented by Coca-Cola takes place June 23-26, 2016. Teaming up with AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company and developer/operator of L.A. LIVE and Staples Center, The BET Experience at L.A. LIVE presented by Coca-Cola will feature some of today’s HOTTEST artists including Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Fetty Wap, A$AP Ferg, Usher, Bryson Tiller, Katt Williams and Ty Dolla $ign. The four-day event will showcase the best in music, comedy, and entertainment. Interactive activations and ticketed shows including a celebrity basketball game will also take place at the FREE BET Experience Fan Fest on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
