Bow Wow Denies Being Black, Claims White/Native Heritage

Bow Wow*Shad “Bow Wow” Moss angered fans yesterday when he took to Twitter to debate about the upcoming election. He confessed that he won’t be voting because he doesn’t believe in the political system because: “All the world leaders are controlled by an upper power that no one knows about. I cant rock w it,” he said.

Moss faced scrutiny from Twitter users after implying that he can’t relate to civil rights matters because he is of mixed race. The former rapper also dismissed the movement, claiming he would send ‘some of his royalties’ to activists as a thank you for fighting for his freedom.

When someone asked whether he felt that being half black meant he could not “relate to sacrifices black men made in the past for you,” Bow Wow tweeted back, “My background diff from yours. Trust.”

To illustrate his point, Bow Wow share this photo below of his “white and native” father:

Naturally, folks looked at his dad’s pic and responded with: mixed where?

Many had to remind Shad that both of his parents represent blackness. Moss responded by saying folks were being overly sensitive, when all he’s trying to do is honor his native side.

But in honoring his native said, he revealed just how ignorant he is about the history of his black side.

Shad tweeted that despite being raised by his black mother, he doesn’t know her side of his family very well.

“Moms side weird. Ive never seen them in my life really. I got 2 aunts and 1 cousin ive known my whole life. CRAZY,” he tweeted.

Based on his comments, one could conclude that his mother never cooked up and served him a hearty bowl of a history about his “black side,” even if such a meal only consisted of savory delights about his ancestors before they were forced into slavery in America.

And surely Shad’s native and white daddy has experienced persecution for simply being a man of color. Moss can’t related to that?

Meanwhile, the reaction on social media has been quite puzzling to me, considering self-hate, and this disturbing obsession with light-skin and race mixing continues to flourish among Black people. Bow Wow is no exception. His comments highlight a bigger issue in the black community: Feeling shame for being born black.

It’s interesting to note that Bow Wow was conveniently black during his heyday as a hip hop star who milked millions from adoring black fans. Now he has been reduced to simply being the former lover of a reality TV starlet who drops controversial remarks every now and then to get attention.
