Broadway’s Hamilton Announces Replacement for Leslie Odom Jr.

*Tony Award-winner Leslie Odom Jr. will be replaced by a 2016 Tony Award-nominee in Broadway’s smash hit “Hamilton.”

Brandon Victor Dixon, nominated this year for “Shuffle Along,” will take over Odom Jr.’s role of Aaron Burr beginning in mid-August.

Dixon has also appeared in “The Color Purple,” ”Motown: The Musical” and “The Scottsboro Boys.” At the Tony’s last month, he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role or Musical, but lost to Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs.

Meanwhile, Lexi Lawson was announced to replace the departing Phillipa Soo as Eliza Schuyler.

Lawson, who will be making her Broadway debut, was in the national tour of “In the Heights” and was also on tour in “Rent.” She begins her run as Schuyler on July 11.

Producers also named Michael Luwoye as the alternate Alexander Hamilton when current alternative Javier Muñoz takes over the Hamilton part from creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on July 11.
