Fans might have been more than a little surprised when pop megastar Janet Jackson announced back in April that she was postponing her Unbreakable world tour in order to start a family.
“I thought it was important that you be the first to know,” she said in a video posted April 6, “My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”
At age 50, many speculated that Jackson and her husband of four years, businessman Wissam Al Mana, might be using a surrogate to carry the child, but brother Tito Jackson confirmed in a recent interview with SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that the baby will be all her own doing.
“She’s doing very well,” Tito, 62, said of Janet, the youngest child of the Jackson dynasty. “She’s taking it easy. As you know, she is off tour, protecting her health.”

A source for E! News said the couple had been working with a fertility specialist for some time — not surprising, given Janet’s age. Even by 40, only two in five women who want to get pregnant are able to do so.
Brother Jermaine Jackson also talked about his excitement for his sister. “She’ll be a great mother because she is tough, very strict,” he said. “My sister Janet is my baby… A baby having a baby. We look at her like our little baby and now she’s grown up and having a baby. I’m proud to be an uncle and I can’t wait to see how this baby is going to look.”
Tito also said that the couple has chosen not to know the sex of the child beforehand, that they’re simply “hoping for a healthy baby.”
Uncle Jermaine has his hopes, though. “I hope she’s having a girl,” he said. “We need more girls in this family. There are too many boys!”
