*Jordan Peele, half of the comic duo Key & Peele, has recreated James Brown’s “nutzoid” 1988 CNN interview. As Rolling Stone notes, back in 1987, Brown was accused of assaulting his wife with a lead pipe and shooting a gun at a car that she was riding in. After his release, the singer conducted a wild, incoherent interview that was full of mumbling and jokes about his own song titles.
Peele reconstructs Brown’s conversation in meticulous detail, mimicking his dress, mannerisms and dancing.
“I’m about to show you a recreation of a crazy James Brown interview,” Jordan Peele announces at the beginning of the clip. “It’s totally nutzoid, and it’s word for word.”

“Key & Peele” won a Peabody Award and has been nominated for various other awards, including Writers Guild Award, NAACP Image Award and several Primetime Emmy Awards. Both comedians previously worked on MADtv, and their iconic sketch comedy series ran from January 2012 – September 2015, with a total of 53 episodes over the course of five seasons.
Jordan co-wrote “Keanu,” the 2016 action comedy directed by Peter Atencio and co-produced by Key. The film starred Key & Peel, Method Man, Nia Long and Will Forte. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Festival in March, and received positive reviews after its April release. “Keanu,” has grossed over $20 million.
In 2014, Keegan-Michael Key starred in the first season of the FX series “Fargo” and the final season of the NBC series “Parks and Recreation.” He has had supporting roles in several films, including “Let’s Be Cops,” “Tomorrowland” and “Pitch Perfect 2.” Last year, Key appeared at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as the character Luther, President Barack Obama’s anger translator.
