Kentucky High School Suspends Policy that Banned Natural Hairstyles Amid Backlash

*Butler Traditional High School in Louisville, KY has suspended its controversial hair policy that banned cornrows, dreadlocks, twists braids and other natural hairstyles.

The school’s Site Based Decision Making Committee met briefly today (July 29) to discuss the policy after news of it went viral this week and they began receiving complaints and criticism.

Following the meeting there was an explosive outburst by a number of parents who attended, but did not have a chance to speak, according to WAVE 3 News.

The school’s hair policy made national headlines after Kentucky State House candidate Attica Scott posted it on social media. Her daughter, an incoming sophomore at the school.
