*On Sunday, the New York Daily News began a piece on Lauryn Hill with the lines, “Call it the miscalculation of Lauryn Hill. The R&B singer has landed in hot water again with the tax collector.”

But Hill has since come forward to say that the article — which cited a tax judgment filed June 30 in Mercer County, New Jersey in saying she owes $438,211 — is actually part of the tax issues she’s been dealing with for years now.

“I’m still taking care of past taxes,” she wrote Tuesday in a letter posted to Twitter. “This has been an ongoing process, and I have been working steadily towards a resolution.”

The Daily News also reported that Hill owes a tax lien from 2012 that amounts to $446,386.60.

In 2013, Hill was sentenced to three months in federal prison on tax evasion charges after the IRS accused her of failing to pay $1 million in back taxes.

Lauryn says her tax problems have largely kept her under the radar ever since.

“When you eat a lot of other people’s debts and become financially responsible for as many people as I did, a break like the one I took was necessary,” she wrote.
