*Oops. That didn’t go as planned. We’re talking about the super-duper faux pas that Donald Trump’s trophy wife, Melania, pulled off Monday night at the Republican National Convention. Melania Trump is being accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech. Check out the plagiarized passages below.
Melania Trump, 2016:
“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Trump told the thousands of Republican delegates and assembled media on Monday night in Cleveland.
Michelle Obama, 2008:
“You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”
There’s more. Melania Trump also ripped off Michelle Obama’s line regarding children:
“We want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
Here’s what Michelle Obama said 2008:
“We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

This is definitely not a good look for the Trump campaign and the presidential candidate himself. It plays right into the narrative that he’s a con man and a fraudster. A party spokesperson told the Huffington Post that the Republican National Committee would not be commenting on the issue.
At this point it’s not known how much of the speech Melania actually wrote, however she told NBC’s Matt Lauer:
“I read once over it and that’s all. Because I wrote it and with [as] little help as possible.”
Jarrett Hill, a journalist and interior designer, is credited with being the first to point out the plagiarism via Twitter.
Now here’s something interesting and ironic. When Michelle Obama delivered her 2008 speech, Donald Trump tweeted how much he enjoyed it.
