*After serving 36 years in office, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich really knows how to bring an end to his career – create a personal theme song with one of his favorite songs, “Dancing In The Street,” and then let it happen on the 52nd anniversary date that the record was released.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will pass a resolution on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 making it Motown “Dancing In The Street” Day-N-LA in Los Angeles County.

Motown

The rich history of Motown, with all the many hit songs that the record company has produced over the years, will also be commemorated.

To make the event happen, Antonovich called upon music expert Ambassador Duane Moody, who will produce the historical Motown monumental celebration.

It all starts at 9:00AM on July 19th in Room 869, of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, located at 500 West Temple Street, in Los Angeles, CA as legendary Motown producer, songwriter William “Mickey” Stevenson, who was one of the original three writers of “Dancing In The Street” will be honored. Also present to be honored will be writer Ivy Jo Hunter.

Singer Marvin Gaye, now deceased, was the third writer.

“Dancing In The Street” first became popular in 1964 when it was recorded by Martha and The Vandellas, whose version reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at No. 4 in the UK singles chart. It is one of Motown’s signature songs and is the group’s premier signature song.

A 1966 cover by the Mamas & The Papas was a minor hit on the Hot 100 reaching No. 73. In 1982, the rock group Van Halen took their cover of “Dancing in the Street” to No. 38 on the Hot 100 chart and No. 15 in Canada on the RPM chart. A 1985 duet cover by David Bowie and Mick Jagger charted at No. 1 in the UK and reached No. 7 in the US. The song was also covered by Grateful Dead and Black Oak Arkansas.

The song will now become the theme song for Antonovich, as he prepares to leave office at the end of the year. The elder statesman has served 36 years, making him the longest elected Board of Directors supervisor in Los Angeles County history.
