Ringside Update/Terrance Crawford From Omaha To Pay Per View

*I really don’t like coming to Las Vegas when it’s hot, but I just couldn’t resist coming to see Terence Crawford although it was hot as fish grease (116 degrees) when I arrived there! I had never attended one of his fights. Folks I got tell you something, this young dark wonder has become boxing’s latest sensation. He’s, for lack of a better term, “The real deal Holyfield.” You could also consider him to be “The Truth.”

He’s just that good, and good enough to be 29-0. He hails out of Omaha, Nebraska which is Warren Buffett country and he comes from humble beginnings. What I particularly like about this young man is that he is such a down to earth individual and doesn’t have the big head about himself. Here’s a guy that likes to pass his time away by going fishing with his crew. But when he’s in the ring he’s dangerous. This past Saturday night he went up against a tough and rugged Viktor Postol in a junior welterweight title unification fight that was telecast live on HBO pay per view.

A fight in which he clearly dominated from the opening bell with his speed, power, and boxing skills.
And don’t get me wrong folks, the guy that he was up against in Viktor Postol who hails out of Kiev, Ukraine is world champion caliber, and a very dangerous fighter that came into this bout with the WBC jr. welterweight title and an identical 28-0 ring record.

For the first four rounds there was very little excitement as they were mainly feeling each other out but going into the fifth Crawford began to slowly find his target and get into a groove as he chose to utilize to fight throughout the bout in his southpaw stance(he’s capable of fighting in the conventional stance also).

What was a little puzzling to most ring observers was the fact that usually southpaw fighters move to their right to avoid getting hit with the right hand of the opponent. Crawford was constantly moving to his left, a move that he had calculated so that he would later say, “to set Postal up to throw his right hand.”

Whatever the case, the move seemed to work for him as Postol wasn’t able to connect properly throughout the bout. At the end of twelve dominating rounds all three judges scored the bout unanimous for Crawford.

He improved his record to 29-0 with 20 coming by way of knockout, and he now is the holder of the WBC, WBO, and Ring magazine jr. welterweight titles. And now the word is that he could possibly be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent this coming November. Not bad for a guy who when he first got noticed in the ring with a unanimous decision over Bredis Prescott and made just over 100,000.00 bucks, he got 1.3 million on a HBO pay per view telecast last weekend at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Boxing needs more guys like Terence Crawford, as I always say, we’ll see what happens.
