*Tavis Smiley was hanging with Prince shortly after the death of Michael Jackson and described the Purple One’s reaction while promoting his new book, “Before You Judge Me,” which sheds new light on the days leading up to Michael Jackson’s death.
Smiley said Prince was in rehearsals at Paisley Park when news first broke of Jackson’s death.
“Prince cancels rehearsals, sent the band home and for days locked himself in his bedroom and wouldn’t come out, really didn’t talk to people,” Smiley told “Extra’s” Charissa Thompson of the late singer’s immediate reaction.
Tavis, meanwhile, is still struggling to accept the passing of Prince, with whom he had shared a 20-year friendship. “I didn’t get to know Michael in the way that I knew Prince,” he said.
