*A comedian from Oakland, Calif. was buying groceries recently when he says he was blindsided by both a random act of kindness, and apology.

Sampson McCormick says he was standing in line at a grocery store when a random white man approached him and apologized for racism and police brutality. He also expressed solidarity for Black Lives Matter and paid for McCormick’s groceries.

In posting a selfie with the man on Facebook, McCormick said: “Just a random moment of solidarity and love that made my day… Some white folks out here are ‘woke’ too.”

McCormick told the Huffington Post he hopes the story of “Mr. Samuel” will help bring unity in the wake of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as the attacks on police in Baton Rouge and Dallas.

“Love does exist in the world,” McCormick told the Post. “It’s really important for us to come together and, however we can, extend acts of love toward one another because we really do need more love in the world.
