*The weekly podcast, Changing the Face of Power will feature black women who are elected officials and political candidates from across the country sharing their stories of what brought them into politics, how they’ve overcome the personal and professional challenges they’ve faced, and why they believe more black women should run for office. Changing the Face of Power guests are serving and running at the state and local level.
“At a time when our country is grappling with serious issues of race, equity and equality – and on the cusp of shattering the highest glass ceiling – black women’s voices and leadership are more important now than ever before,” said Rebecca Thompson, creator and host of Changing the Face of Power.
“Changing the Face of Power is for any woman – and particularly any woman of color – who is considering running for elected office but needs a little inspiration and encouragement to overcome her fears and take the life-changing step forward.”
In 2014 Thompson, also Founder and CEO of Rebecca Thompson International, ran for State Representative in Michigan. Though she lost her first race by just six votes on Election Day, Thompson realized her experiences being a first-time candidate and a Black woman were extremely unique.
“After I got over the pain of defeat and the exhaustion from running a campaign, I realized there were so many things I wish I knew before I ran.
I also wish I had a community of women who could support me on my journey,” Thompson said. “I didn’t have it then, so I’m creating it now.
Changing the Face of Power is my gift to myself and to the women who have the dream in their heart to run for office.”
As the first and only podcast in the country dedicated to inspiring black women to run for elected office, Changing the Face of Power
will also offer listeners access to step by step tutorials and templates, meetups and trainings across the country. Thompson’s goal is to become the leading destination and resource for black women running for office at the state and local level.

- Roslyn Brown – Alderwoman, Pine Lawn, MO
