*A 62-year-old man in New Jersey says his Donald Trump t-shirt and use of a racial slur led to his alleged assault outside of a Friendly’s restaurant.

Peter Yankowski tells News 12 New Jersey that he was walking along West Passaic Avenue in Bloomfield on Aug. 3 wearing a t-shirt that depicts the GOP presidential candidate with an American Flag background.

Yankowski says that an African-American man who appeared to be in his 20s drove by and yelled out “white trash” and a rude comment about the shirt. The two men started to argue, according to Yankowski. He admits to calling the African-American driver the N-word.

The driver then left and Yankowski says that he went inside Friendly’s on Broad Street to get some ice cream. About 15 minutes later, according to Yankowski, the driver came back with a metal steering wheel lock similar to the Club.

Yankowski says the driver stepped to him outside, they argued some more, and then the driver assaulted him with the metal device in front of witnesses.

“He goes like, ‘You’re a n***er. You’re not even supposed to be here. This is a white people spot’,” Friendly’s employee Mimi Sonmez told reporters. “When they came outside, the kid was trying to hit him with the metal. When I saw the metal going toward the white man’s head, I pushed the kid away.”

Bloomfield police say that since the driver came back to the store with the metal object, they are treating the incident as an assault.

At press time, the suspect had yet to be found.
