Rep. Joyce Beatty Shades Melania Trump’s Look-a-Like Dress – Nas Talks New Film

Rep. Joyce Beatty, Trump*Melania Trump, wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and a former nude model, appeared onstage in Cleveland to give her plagiarized speech while wearing a white, pouf-sleeved dress made by London-based and Serbian-born designer Roksanda Ilincic.

When Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) took the stage at the Democratic National Convention last Thursday, she took the Internet by storm by rocking the exact same dress. Rep. Joyce was asked about the fashion face-off and she added a bit of shade toward Mrs. Trump while explaining what motivated her to wear the same dress.

“I have heard others say [Trump’s dress] was a zero, or she is a zero,” Beatty told ET. “But I am a 10.”

The Ohio congresswoman says she has never seen Trump’s bell-sleeved dress and that it was her husband who picked out the outfit for her.

“My husband [Otto Beatty, Jr.] came today and asked me to wear this dress,” she said. “I think they look similar, but this is the dress my husband bought for me.”

“Now it’s blowing up all over the nation that it’s the same dress as Mrs. Trump’s but I don’t know,” Beatty said to WCMH. “I just know that I used my own words when I wore the dress.”

Many consider the fashion mishap to be a shady response to Trump’s plagiarism of the First Lady Obama’s 2008 DNC speech.

What do you think? Who wore the dress best? Sound off in the comments below.

NasMeanwhile, Hip Hop icon Nas and rising film director Steven Caple Jr. are teaming to bring the story of Black youth in Cleveland to the big screen in their new film “The Land.”

Executive produced by Nas, the movie takes viewers on the journey of four high school friends who have dreams of mastering their skateboarding skills. Caple Jr. says the concept came to him one day as he was mentoring some elementary school students at an inner-city park in Los Angeles when he spotted two random kids hopping a fence with their skateboards. When he went to go kick them out of the park, they ended up talking and the kids explained that they were selling marijuana to fund their entry into skateboarding competitions and new equipment. It was their ticket out of the hood.

“The Land” marks Caple’s feature debut and is currently playing in New York and Los Angeles.

Essence caught up with Nas and Steven at the NYC premiere of “The Land” to get the inside scoop on how the film came together. Check it out in the video below.
