Will Smith On Marriage: ‘I’ve Done A lot Of Counseling’

Will Smith, Jada*Will Smith and his wife Jada have addressed divorce rumors and confirmed their open marriage, and now the “Suicide Squad” star wants you to know that he and his wife have spent an extensive amount of time in marriage counseling.

The couple have been married for 19 years, and they reportedly reached a breaking point along the way. Will says intense therapy helped them save their relationship, according to Page Six.

“I’ve done a lot of marriage counseling,” Smith said. “What happens in a marriage once you do counseling, the truth comes out. And you sit across from your wife and you’ve said all of your truth and she has said all of her truth. You look at each other and you can’t imagine you could ever possibly love each other again now the truth is out.”

The Smiths could not have grown into a strong team without addressing their marital and personal issues.

“It creates a dark moment. But for me it’s the dark before the dawn,” Will said. “When the truth comes out and people have to say who they are and what they think, you get to know who they are. I think that’s the cleansing before you get to the other side that is understanding and moving forward in our relationship.”

WIll and Jada have been married since 1997, and they have two children together, Jaden and Willow, and Smith has one son, Trey, from his first marriage to Sheree Zampino.

Jada often takes to Facebook to offer advice to her fans and readers about relationships. Her status on how to handle heartbreak received nearly 20,000 likes, and a controversial post about her and Will’s open marriage generated nearly 300,000 likes and over 30,000 comments, The Huff Post notes.

Meanwhile, director Joe Carnahan has confirmed that Will and Martin Lawrence are returning for the third installment of “Bad Boys.”
