*Multiple reports are claiming that Brad Pitt is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services after being accused of verbal and physical abuse against one of his children with Angelina Jolie, who filed for divorce earlier this week.
People, TMZ and CNN were among the outlets citing sources who claim Pitt spoke with Los Angeles authorities about the child abuse allegations involving one of his children.
According to the outlets, the alleged incident took place on September 14 on the couple’s private plane. Jolie listed September 15 as the date of their separation in her divorce filing and is seeking physical custody of their six children: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.
Pitt is accused of becoming verbally abusive with one of the kids, as well as getting physical, according to People. Jolie and at least some of the couple’s other children were present at the time, and the report allegedly indicates he had been drinking at the time of the incident.
Another source told People that Pitt did not return to the L.A. family home with Jolie and the children after the incident. That wasn’t unusual, says the source – Pitt would often spend the night at a hotel after arguments with Jolie.
TMZ provided more details of the alleged incident in its report:
Sources familiar with the situation tell us, Brad, Angelina and their kids were on a flight last Wednesday when he allegedly got wasted on the private jet. He allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids.
We’re told the plane landed at an airport around 8 PM, and witnesses say Pitt continued his rant on the tarmac, and even tried leaving in one of the fuel trucks.
Our sources say someone either on the plane or the tarmac anonymously reported the incident to the L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services. We’re told Brad and Angelina have already been interviewed and DCFS plans to interview the kids as well. That investigation is ongoing.
We’re also told the LAPD has the case … which is routine when anyone reports child abuse. We do not know the specifics of the alleged abuse … just that it was supposedly both verbal and physical.
Regarding the reported LAPD and DCFS investigation, a “source with knowledge of the situation” told CNN Thursday: “[Brad] is taking this very seriously and he’s cooperated. He has always worked hard to be a good father and wants to do whatever is best for his family.”
However, LAPD is denying any such investigation into the actor. “LAPD is not handling any report or allegations into child abuse against Brad Pitt,” according to a statement from spokeswoman Officer Jenny Houser.
The Department of Children and Family Services says by law it cannot confirm or deny investigations, according to a statement from spokesman Armand Montiel.
