EUR on the Red Carpet for New Epix Docu-series ‘America Divided’

*On Tuesday night (09-20-16) in downtown Los Angeles, EPIX premiered their original limited docu-series “America Divided” executive produced by Norman Lear, Shonda Rhimes and Common.

The docu-series cuts to the heart of the inequality crisis while exploring life-and-death-struggles around the economic, social and political divide.

The project comes at an important time that finds the country racially divided more than ever within the last two years with the shooting deaths of unarmed black men, the mysterious death of Sandra Bland while in police custody and the recent shooting deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castille, and just this week Terance Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, both shot and killed by the hands of police officers.

The eight story-five part series, features narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system. The show follows high profile correspondents Common, Norman Lear, Amy Poehler, Rosario Dawson, Peter Sarsgaad, Jesse Williams and Zach Galifianakis as they individually tackle the different aspects of inequality that are dividing the country.

In the video above, EURweb associate Jay Styles talks with creator and executive Producer Solly Granatstein on the project and his first thoughts on creating a series on a divided country. Senior Producer and correspondent Jesse Williams was also on the carpet discussing his role on the documentary as well along with executive producer and correspondent Common, enlightening us on why he wanted to be a part of this project. He shared that it’s his duty to be a apart of it and do things that are helpful to impact change in a positive way.

After the red carpet, all parties headed to the theater down the hall to watch the screening of “America Divided” which was then followed by a Q & A panel led by Vanity Fair’s executive West coast editor, Krista Smith.

Be sure to check out the premiere of “America Divided” Friday September 30 on EPIX.
