*(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Cast members of the NAACP 9-time nominated two-act hit stage play, “The Marriage,” actresses Dawnn Lewis and Carlease Burke, and actor Andre Pietre, along with playwright/director/producer Kosmond Russell were all guests on “The Actor’s Choice” with host Ron Brewington – Monday, September 26th.

Based on a true story, it’s the exploration of relationships between family, friends, parents and spouses when they have to be honest about the challenges of mental illness of a newlywed couple.

Angelique Charles (Dawnn Lewis), who left the comfort of her home in Philadelphia to marry the man of her dreams, Mike Demummery (Andre Pietre) in California. The holy matrimony seemed storybook until Angelique’s unlikely development of schizophrenia quickly unravels the marriage challenging the young couple’s faith in God, family and themselves.

The play features an all-star lineup of more than a dozen notable actors including Carlease Burke, Pat Belcher, Angela Gibbs, Connie Brazelton; comedians Dannon Green, Evan Lionel, Edwonda White, Novakane, Christopher Richards and others.

The play originally debuted in 2000 with Ted Lange (most noted for “Love Boat” fame) as director and Kosmond as the writer.

Lewis won NAACP Awards Best Lead Actress and Russell received Best Playwright for their efforts.

So then 15 years later, Russell says he received a strong feeling to do the play again. “I started off with Dawnn, and initially called her telling her what I wanted to do,” says Russell.

Lewis told him, “After 15 years…anyway you want to use me Kos…use me!?” was her response.

It’s almost like seeing the play for the first time,” says Russell. “It brings tears to my eyes because the words resonate so true.”

“The Marriage” will have TWO performances only, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 2:30PM and 7:30PM at The West Angeles Performing Arts Center, 3020 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. 90016.
