The U.S. Marshals Service announced Wednesday that 37-year-old Tobias Loftin was taken into custody following a 30-minute standoff.

Warrants charging Loftin with first-degree murder and use of a firearm were issued Aug. 31, four days after 34-year-old Demetrius “Yang” McCloud was killed on the dance floor of Club Embassy in the 5400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd, reports The Virginian-Pilot.

Police asked the Marshals for help, and a tip led them to North Carolina.

At the time of the shooting, Loftin was wanted for failure to appear at two court hearings – one in Norfolk and another in Virginia Beach. Both stemmed from charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In Virginia Beach, he also had pending drug charges.

The Club Embassy shooting was at least the fourth in the past two years at or near the club, formerly known as Aqua Lounge. The club’s owners surrendered their liquor license that same weekend, effectively putting it out of business.

McCloud was killed six weeks after being released on bond from the Norfolk City Jail, where he’d spent four months awaiting trial on gun and drug charges. He had a criminal record, including convictions for possession and distribution of cocaine and malicious wounding.
