*Steve Harvey sat down with Nate Parker for an interview to air Wednesday (Oct. 7) on his daytime talk show — two days before his film “The Birth of a Nation” arrives in theaters.

Parker, who co-wrote, directed and stars in the movie about  Nat Turner’s slave rebellion, will discuss how the story is relevant to current race issues in the United States.

The actor will also talk about the personal controversy that has taken attention away from his work. While he was a student at Penn State in 1999, Nate was charged and acquitted of rape when he was 19 years old. In a tragic turn, the woman who filed the charges against Nate, committed suicide in 2012.

Nate will talk to Steve about the incident, with insight as to how it has affected his life, his family and ultimately, his career. He also addresses the state of his friendship with co-star and rape survivor Gabrielle Union following her op-ed piece in the Los Angeles Times about Parker’s case.

“We talk all the time. The media might have you believe there’s some type of separation, like she’s on some side of the fence and I’m on another side of the fence. That’s not the case at all,” Nate tells Steve.

Watch clips from Harvey’s Oct. 5 episode:

Below, Nate says he was devastated to hear that the woman who had filed charges against him had committed suicide, saying it “shocked my soul.”
