President Obama to Host His Own Music Festival on White House Lawn

Obama Starts Music Festival

*President Obama announced that he intends to host South by South Lawn, a one-day festival on the South Lawn of the White House on October 3, RollingOut.com reports.

The fest will be in partnership with SXSW, and is still in the planning stages. The event was inspired by Obama’s trip to South by Southwest in Austin earlier this year, where Barack and Michelle Obama delivered a pair of keynote speeches.

The White House music fest will include panel discussions, student short films, and live performances. The event will bring together creators, innovators, and organizers from across the country, and will take place Monday, Oct. 3.

In coordination with the American Film Institute, the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities, and South by Southwest, the South by South Lawn festival will be composed of three parts:

– Interactive booths encouraging attendees to engage with and learn about new technologies and innovations.

– As part of this event, the 3rd Annual White House Student Film Festival will showcase official The World I Want to Live In themed selections honoring young filmmakers.

– Musical performances by well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.

The guest list will be selected from submitted nominees, and Obama is inviting all to nominate themselves or someone they know creating change in their community as potential attendees. The deadline to submit nominations via the White House website is Sept. 10 at 5pm.
