*Prince’s legendary 1980s backing band, The Revolution, reunited in Minneapolis Thursday night (Sept. 1) for the first of three shows this weekend honoring his legacy.
Taking the stage at the iconic First Avenue club — where much of “Purple Rain” was filmed — were The Revolution’s Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Dr. Fink, Mark Brown, Bobby Z and Dez Dickerson, as well as bassist André Cymone and “Purple Rain” co-star Apollonia.
The set list included “Little Red Corvette,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “The Beautiful Ones,” “Sometimes it Snows in April,” “1999,” “Baby I’m a Star,” “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry.”
As one fan noted (below), several of Prince’s ex’s were on hand along with Apollonia, including former wives Mayte and Manuela Testolini and one-time girlfriend Susannah Melvoin (Wendy’s twin sister).
