*Taraji P. Henson rocks her crown proudly on the newest cover of Entertainment Weekly, in which she talks about the upcoming third season of “Empire.”
Henson is making her media rounds before its debut, and for this EW feature, the Golden Globe winner opens up about remaining humble and not taking opportunities for granted.
Henson has several new projects in the works, including her upcoming memoir “Around The Way Girl” (drops October 11th), a new MAC cosmetics line and her lead role in feature film “Hidden Figures,” where she will play real-life NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson — in theaters January 13, 2017.

“This is my first time carrying a show and then going to carry a movie,” Taraji told EW. “That’s a lot. It’s so stressful, and I had to really check myself because it’s so easy to take for granted when you get to a certain level. Like check yourself because people pray to be here.”

For her “Hidden Figures” role, EW notes how Henson had to learn math in order to play Johnson.
“I had to learn math,” she says. “You don’t understand. Math gives me – I break out in hives. It reminds me of a failure.” Henson says that while playing louder than life Cookie can be exhausting, portraying the more soft-spoken Johnson was equally challenging. “Even though I’m not exerting as much energy, I still am ‘cause it it takes a lot for me to sit on all of this energy I have. So even with Katherine, I went home feeling drained.”
Season 3 of “Empire” returns September 21 at 9pm E/P on FOX.
