*A new promo for season 7 of “The Walking Dead” gives fans their first look at King Ezekiel, played by Khary Payton.
In the comic book, Ezekiel is the self-proclaimed “king” of a community called “The Kingdom.” He has a pet tiger named Shiva and is a friend of the Hilltop Colony. He also has a strong hatred for Negan and the Saviors.
“We’ve been looking for you,” a voiceover states over the opening footage. “I am King Ezekiel,” the ruler declares with a staff in his hand seated next to his tiger. “Welcome to the kingdom.”
Morgan Jones (Lennie James) also appears in the new teaser. “I can’t let you die out there,” he says.
The AMC series returns next month with a 16-episode season divided into two parts. The first eight will premiere on Oct. 23; the second half will begin airing in February, 2017.
In Season 7’s first half, the group must pick up the pieces while living under the oppressive rule of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who brutally convinces them to live by his rules.
