*Chris Rock is bringing two new comedy specials to Netflix next year.
The comedian is partnering with the streaming service for his return to standup following an eight-year hiatus.
The first special will tape in 2017, following a new world tour that is currently being planned, Netflix announced Thursday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rock will pocket $40 million for the two specials, a new high mark for a stand-up comic. The $20 million per special is believed to be more than what Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld and Amy Schumer have commanded.
“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty. There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer.

I can’t wait to get back on stage,” said Rock, who has won four Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards and is a New York Times Best-Selling Author. In addition, he received two nominations for the 2016 Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Director for a Variety Special for “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo,” and Outstanding Special Class Program for the 88 th Annual Academy Awards.
