When asked by EUR what it meant to him being at the 20th anniversary of Urbanworld, esteemed actor David Oyelowo expressed heartfelt thanks.
“It means a lot to me because I was here only two years ago with another film very dear to my heart, ‘Selma,’ and from just what we showed, we got some sense of its success. The reception that film received was great and it really set the tone for how that film was going to be received.
“So to come again with ‘Queen of Katwe,’ another film very dear to my hear, set in a continent so dear to me in terms of being a child of African descent, it just feel like this festival is my good luck charm.”
“Queen of Katwe” is the amazing true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Directed by Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding”) from a screenplay by William Wheeler (“The Hoax”) based on the book by Tim Crothers, “Queen of Katwe.”
“Queen of Katwe” opens in theaters nationally September 30th.
